No. 19 Indiana Falls to Michigan State

Michigan State and Adam Ballinger broke out of slumps Tuesday night.

Kelvin Torbert and Alan Anderson each scored 12 points, and Michigan State ended its worst skid in six seasons with a 61-54 victory over No. 19-ranked Indiana at East Lansing, Mich.

Ballinger made a three-point basket with 39 seconds left to essentially secure the victory.

“It killed us,” Indiana Coach Mike Davis said. “Killed us.”

Ballinger, who averaged 11.2 points and 6.8 rebounds last season, hasn’t scored in double figures since early December and is averaging only six points and three rebounds.

The Spartans (11-8, 3-4 Big Ten) had lost six of eight games, their worst slump since 1996-97, Tom Izzo’s second season as coach.

“Well, we ain’t dead yet,” Izzo said.

Jeff Newton scored 15 points for the Hoosiers (14-5, 4-3).

No. 4 Florida 70, Louisiana State 53 -- Brett Nelson made seven three-point baskets at Baton Rouge, La., en route to a season-high 26 points, and the Gators (17-2, 6-0 Southeastern Conference) won their 13th consecutive game.

No. 6 Oklahoma 75, Texas A&M; 68 -- Hollis Price scored 24 points and the Sooners (14-3, 5-1 Big 12) extended the nation’s longest home winning streak to 33 games.

The Sooners defeated the Aggies (10-6, 2-3) for the seventh consecutive time and ran their record in the series to 18-1.

No. 17 Wake Forest 81, Clemson 60 -- Josh Howard scored 18 points and led a key second-half run at Clemson, S.C., to help the Demon Deacons (14-2, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) defeat the Tigers (11-5, 1-5) for the eighth time in nine games.

Two timing errors probably caused by the clock operator occurred in the last seven seconds of regulation of Oklahoma’s 69-64 men’s victory over Texas Tech on Jan. 20 at Norman, Okla., Big 12 officials said.
