A sparkling Fourth of July on the TV screen

Television will light an assortment of Independence Day programming sparklers, for both daytime and prime time, that include specials, movies, marathons, concerts and sports events. Here are highlights:

Concerts

From the banks of the Charles River comes the “Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular,” with Keith Lockhart conducting the orchestra. Singer LeAnn Rimes and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir will participate as guests. After many years on cable’s A&E;, the extravaganza moves to CBS, at 10 p.m.

A&E; in turn hits the road to Riverfront Park in Nashville for “This Is Your Country,” a concert by that city’s symphony orchestra, with actor Chris Noth as host. Adding to the music playlist are Brian Wilson, Al Green and Lee Ann Womack. At 8 and 10 p.m.

PBS offers its annual “A Capitol Fourth” from Washington, D.C., with Erich Kunzel conducting the National Symphony Orchestra. KCET, at 8 p.m.

Specials

Macy’s department store will help America celebrate the holiday with more than a sale by sponsoring “Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular.” Pop singers Sheryl Crow, Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Clarkson and John Mellencamp are scheduled to fill out the entertainment package. NBC, at 9 p.m.

Movies

James Cagney sings and dances in “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” the 1942 musical about composer George M. Cohan, with some memorable American songs -- “You’re a Grand Old Flag,” “Give My Regards to Broadway,” “Over There.” Turner Classic Movies, at 5 p.m.

Marathons

A “Twilight Zone” bonanza is due on Maple Street when the Sci Fi Channel presents 22 hours of episodes from Rod Serling’s classic series, starting at 8 a.m.

FX sets up a “MASH” unit marathon at 9 a.m., and TNN toasts a string of James Bond adventures, starting with Sean Connery in “Dr. No,” at 9 a.m.

Sports

In tennis, it will be breakfast and lunch at Wimbledon when ESPN presents the first men’s singles semifinal at 5 a.m. Later NBC takes center court with the second men’s semifinal match, at noon.

The Arizona Diamondbacks play the Dodgers at 6 p.m. on UPN, and the Angels visit the Oakland A’s at 5 p.m. on ESPN.
