Barry Bonds hit a two-run homer, his 25th of the season, to highlight a five-run fourth inning and J.T. Snow also homered to help the San Francisco Giants defeat the San Diego Padres, 8-6, Friday night to end the Padres’ five-game winning streak.

The West Division-leading Giants beat the last-place Padres for the sixth time in seven games this season. San Diego was coming off a three-game sweep at Dodger Stadium, preceded by two straight wins over the Seattle Mariners, the winningest team in the majors.

Bonds drove a 2-2 fastball from Jake Peavy an estimated 402 feet, several rows into the right-field seats, with two out in the fourth.

It was the 638th homer of his career and the two RBIs gave him 1,704, moving him out of a tie with Reggie Jackson and into sole possession of 15th on the all-time list.

Bonds’ 39 homers at Qualcomm Stadium are his most at a road ballpark, and his 73 against the Padres are his most against any team. In the ninth inning, Bonds drew the 2,000th walk of his career.

The Giants trailed, 4-2, beginning the fourth. Edgardo Alfonzo walked and pitcher Jesse Foppert singled with one out. They scored on Ray Durham’s triple into the Giants’ bullpen in the right-field corner.

First base umpire Jerry Layne called it a ground-rule double but changed the call after talking it over with the rest of the crew.

Snow drove in the go-ahead run on a groundout to first. Marquis Grissom singled ahead of Bonds’ homer, which gave the Giants a 7-4 lead.

Foppert (5-7) gave up five runs and six hits in five innings, struck out six and walked three. Tim Worrell pitched a perfect ninth for his 19th save in 23 chances.

Peavy (8-6), who had won his previous four starts, lasted only four innings, his shortest outing of the year. He yielded seven runs and nine hits, walked three and struck out one.
