Man Arrested in Carjacking of Van
An Oxnard man was arrested Saturday night for allegedly carjacking a Mazda van and then crashing it into a residence.
Juan Jose Rivera, 21, was riding a bicycle on the 500 block of East Fir Avenue about 8:40 p.m. when he approached the driver’s door of a 1996 green minivan that was idling in the street, according to police.
He allegedly threatened the driver, a 36-year-old Oxnard man, saying he had a knife and would kill him if he didn’t give up the car, police said.
About 15 minutes later, Rivera allegedly crashed the van into a home in the 500 block of Del Sur Way, police said. He was arrested on suspicion of carjacking, driving under the influence and possession of alcohol in a vehicle. He remains in Ventura County Jail in lieu of $110,000 bail.
