Sean Burroughs made sure the San Diego Padres had at least one big bat in the lineup.

The 22-year-old third baseman hit a three-run homer, doubled twice and scored three runs as the Padres routed Arizona, 14-2, Thursday, ending the Diamondbacks’ 11-game home winning streak.

Ryan Klesko, who leads the Padres in homers and RBIs, sat out his third straight game because of a respiratory illness.

“You’re missing your key slugger in Ryno, it’s amazing that we scored 14,” Burroughs said. “But I wouldn’t put it past us. We’ve got guys that can come in and hit the ball around.”

Mark Kotsay, Mark Loretta and pitcher Kevin Jarvis each drove in two runs for the Padres, who ended Arizona’s four-game winning streak. San Diego won for the ninth time in 12 games.

“Our wins, usually they’re tight ballgames,” Manager Bruce Bochy said. “We’re not the type of team to bang out a lot of runs. But tonight we did. Things went our way, and hitting got contagious there.”

The 14 runs were a season high for the Padres and the most allowed this year by Arizona, which won 18 of its previous 21 games.

The Diamondbacks had tied a team record set in May 2000 for the longest winning string at Bank One Ballpark.

“When you’re running off a streak like we did, 12 in a row and 11 consecutive wins at home, sometimes it’s good to get something like this out of the way, because sooner or later the law of averages is going to catch up to you,” left fielder Luis Gonzalez said.

Jarvis (2-2), who didn’t get into the rotation until June 13 because of an elbow strain, won his second straight after going 0-2 in four starts. He yielded two runs and seven hits and walked three in six innings.
