Coyote Fire Is 56% Contained
Firefighters on Monday had contained 56% of a lightning-sparked wildfire that has consumed more than 18,705 acres across the Chihuahua Valley in San Diego County, authorities said.
The Coyote fire continued to burn east and northeast into the rugged Sheep and Salvador canyons, said Martin Johnson, of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Authorities predict the fire will be contained by Wednesday.
The blaze started Wednesday along the border of Riverside and San Diego counties, about 30 miles southeast of Temecula. The fire destroyed parts of a San Diego State University research facility, but has spared nearby homes and the Boy Scouts’ Lost Valley Scout Reservation, which remained closed.
