Mark Hendrickson’s first outing at Yankee Stadium was a slam dunk.

Just back from the minors, the former NBA player pitched a five-hitter to lead the Toronto Blue Jays over the New York Yankees, 8-0, Monday night in a game called after 7 1/2 innings because of rain.

“I think the trip back to the minors has been very helpful,” the 6-foot-9 Hendrickson said. “Seeing how far I’ve come as a pitcher, the game is played at such a high speed up here.”

Vernon Wells homered twice for the Blue Jays, who tagged Jeff Weaver for 11 hits and ended the Yankees’ five-game winning streak.

The Blue Jays have won five straight in New York -- they swept a four-game series at Yankee Stadium for the first time in franchise history May 22-25.

Oakland 6, Kansas City 1 -- Rich Harden pitched seven sharp innings in his major league debut and the Athletics took advantage of the Royals’ wild bullpen at Kansas City, Mo.

The Athletics drew five consecutive walks with two out in the ninth to break a 1-1 tie.

Harden, a much-heralded rookie, gave up one run and four hits. He struck out four and walked two, and wound up with a no-decision.

It was 1-1 in the ninth when Oakland pinch-hitter Chris Singleton lined a one-out single off Sean Lowe (1-1).

Minnesota 5, Seattle 4 -- Chris Gomez hit a go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning at Minneapolis to lead the Twins to their fifth consecutive victory.

Torii Hunter homered and Shannon Stewart went two for four with a run batted in for the Twins, on their best stretch since winning six in a row in early May.

Boston 14, Detroit 5 -- Manny Ramirez went four for four and hit his 23rd homer, and the Red Sox hit a season-high nine doubles in a victory over the Tigers at Boston.

The Red Sox had 18 hits and batted around twice in a game for the second time this season. The best-hitting team in the majors had scored 17 runs in six games before beating Toronto, 9-4, Sunday.

Chicago 4, Cleveland 3 -- Joe Crede homered and Carl Everett had a two-run single to lead the White Sox at Chicago. Mike Porzio (1-1) earned the first victory of his career as a starter, giving up three runs and five hits over five innings.

Baltimore 3, Texas 2 -- Pat Hentgen took a four-hitter into the seventh inning and B.J. Surhoff homered at Baltimore to lead the Orioles to their fifth straight victory, their longest streak since May 2001.
