A consumer’s guide to the best and worst of sports media and merchandise. Ground rules: If it can be read, played, heard, observed, worn, viewed, dialed or downloaded, it’s in play here. One exception: No products will be endorsed.

What: “Beyond the Glory: Tony Hawk.”

When: Sunday, 9 p.m., Fox Sports Net; 10:30 p.m., Fox Sports Net 2.

Early on, Tony Hawk’s gawky stance and mellow demeanor contradicted the punk style favored by the brash crowd that loved skateboarding.

Dude was not cool. People laughed behind his back.

The latest edition of “Beyond the Glory” explains how this self-described nerd became a one-man multimillion-dollar industry.

You’ll learn less about how Hawk twists his 6-foot-3 frame into a series of in-air contortions with remarkable balance and more about his business savvy and relentless drive.

“I was never one to give up on something,” Hawk said.

His success didn’t come easy. Almost as quickly as skateboarding took off, Hawk’s life began to unravel.

Pressing financial problems, the new responsibility of parenthood and his father being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer forced him to refocus.

It is a story of Hawk’s determination to bring back the mainstream success of skateboarding and how by doing so, his name became synonymous with the sport he helped redefine.
