Bigots More Offensive Than Illegal Immigrants

Share

Re “A Bleak View of Orange County’s Future,” letter, July 13:

Patricia Perkins of Costa Mesa states, “Our parks are now for the exclusive use of illegal immigrants.” I am an employee of the Costa Mesa Recreation Department. Among my duties is working a few days a month at City Hall, at the park permit desk. The city requires a park permit for any gathering of more than 10 people. If the “illegal immigrants” Perkins writes about have European surnames, where are the illegal immigrants from?

My experience in processing permits has shown me that Costa Mesa has a diverse population requesting use of our parks. Our park permits are being issued to Asians, Latinos and many, many people of European ancestry. I also noticed this diversity last week at Fairview Park, when we had our first installment of this year’s Concerts in the Park. What a glorious cross-section of humanity, right here in Costa Mesa.

I can’t help feeling that the view of Orange County’s future is only “bleak” because there is enormous bigotry.
