From Staff and Wire Reports

The debut of the Gold Line railway on Saturday attracted an estimated 79,000 riders and, except for a few minor glitches, featured smooth-running trains, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Problems included a door that wouldn’t shut and a train with jerky friction brakes, but no major mishaps occurred, said Ed Scannell, an MTA spokesman.

On Sunday -- the second day of free rides -- ridership was far lower and no technical problems were reported, officials said.
