Parking Pinch Drives Up the Price of Spaces

From Times Wire Reports

The parking pinch in downtown Sacramento is picking up the pace -- and it’s expected to get worse.

A new complex and its additional 4,800 workers are driving up the price of spaces. The state has allocated only 1.35 parking spaces for every 1,000 square feet of office space.

That translates, for instance, into about 400 spots for the state Department of Education’s 1,200 employees.

The pinch has angered many downtown workers and residents who have seen the price of their parking spots rise as high as $150 a month.

And parking could become worse, said Robb Deignan, spokesman for the Department of General Services. A new office building is expected to house another 1,200 workers soon.
