Deco in downtown: a study under the stars
Devotees of Art Deco will appreciate the streamlined shapes and lush materials in “Downtown at Sunset: Art Deco,” an evening tour hosted by the nonprofit Los Angeles Conservancy as part of its annual summer walking series.
The tour focuses on the architecture and ornamentation of buildings created during the 1920s through the ‘40s in downtown L.A. Highlighted buildings include the 1928 Oviatt Building on Olive Street, the turquoise Eastern Columbia building on South Broadway and the Garfield and Sun Realty buildings. The nearly two-hour tour spans 5th to 9th streets and Flower Street to Broadway.
