MIAMI -- The Angels’ relievers needed relief after the team endured three days and 32 innings in humid Puerto Rico, especially because three days in muggy Miami were next on the schedule. So the team replenished its bullpen Friday, activating closer Troy Percival from the disabled list and promoting Bart Miadich from triple-A Salt Lake.

Miadich was eligible Friday, and Percival will be eligible today. To clear roster spots, the Angels returned utilityman Chone Figgins to Salt Lake and put pitcher Mickey Callaway on the disabled list.

Callaway reported stiffness and soreness in his right shoulder during and after Thursday’s 8-7 loss to the Montreal Expos, in which he gave up three runs in the 14th inning and took the defeat. Callaway said the shoulder throbbed with pain as he tried to sleep Thursday night, and doctors diagnosed tendinitis Friday.

After Thursday’s game, with Callaway pitching on three consecutive days for the first time in his career, Manager Mike Scioscia said poor command was to blame, not fatigue. Before the injury was diagnosed, the Angels were prepared to remove Callaway from the roster.

Callaway, a career starter who filled in during the April rehabilitation of Aaron Sele, said the diagnosis did not entirely surprise him. If the Angels need him as a reliever, he said he would oblige, even if the transition is not easy physically or mentally.

“You’ve got to condition your body to be a reliever. That’s what I’m trying to do,” he said. “I still want to start. I still think I’m a starter. But I’m in a position where I’m the long man or I’m the guy who’s there in case something happens.”

Miadich, who had a 2.70 earned-run average as the Salt Lake closer, is expected to return to the Stingers Monday, when center fielder Darin Erstad is expected to rejoin the Angels from his triple-A rehabilitation assignment. Miadich reported Erstad appears ready to return and praised him for picking up the tab for two bountiful postgame buffets for the Salt Lake players.

“He’s getting us all fat,” Miadich said.

New owner Arte Moreno’s pledge to lower Edison Field concession prices beyond beer stands resulted in two modest reductions -- a bottle of soda will be $4, not $4.25, and a large bag of peanuts will be $5, not $5.25. The Angels also will offer a package of four hot dogs, a large bag of peanuts and a one-liter bottle of soda for $16.
