A Huntington Beach man died in a fiery crash early Saturday when a truck hit his sports car from behind and forced it into a wall, rupturing its gas tank, authorities said.

David W. Huie, 60, was killed about 8:20 a.m., moments after he stopped his 1962 Corvette for a red light at Golden West Street and Slater Avenue in Huntington Beach.

Police said a tractor-trailer collided with Huie’s car, pushed it across Slater, and then both vehicles hit a wall. Huie’s Corvette caught fire.

Police said the truck driver, Jesus E. Zendejas of Oxnard, apparently did not see Huie’s car and told investigators he thought the light was green.

Zendejas and a female passenger in the truck were treated at a Huntington Beach hospital for burns and minor injuries.

Police said Huie apparently died on impact with the wall.

The crash is under investigation.
