A transient who walked into a lemon company office with a pocketknife stuck in his chest Saturday was reported in serious condition at a Ventura hospital.

Michael Doyle entered the office on Los Angeles Avenue between Saticoy and Camarillo about 8:30 a.m. and called 911, authorities said.

When deputies arrived, they found him gripping the knife, still stuck in his chest, according to Eric Nishimoto, a Ventura County sheriff’s spokesman.

Authorities believe Doyle was stabbed before 6:45 a.m. Saturday, but the location of the attack remained unclear, as well as why it took Doyle nearly two hours to seek help. Doyle normally stays near McGrath State Beach between Ventura and Oxnard, authorities said.

Anyone with information about the stabbing or who saw Doyle walking along Los Angeles Avenue before or after the attack is asked to call 654-2311.

Doyle is white, 5 feet 9, thin and about 40 years old. He has long, unkempt hair.
