Gym Is Still the Pits for Kapono

Jason Kapono will leave UCLA with many fond memories. McArthur Court will not be one of them.

Fighting a severe cold, the senior forward was held to five points Saturday.

He made one of eight shots, a three-pointer with 6:50 to play, seconds after he had launched an airball from the same spot.

His struggle was reminiscent of last season’s 29-point loss at “The Pit,” when he made one of six shots and scored four points.

“I’m just real sluggish and drained,” he said. “But that didn’t have anything to do with my struggling.

“We thought we were ready for their uptempo style of play, but we couldn’t do anything to counter it.”
