Schmidt Helps Set Frustrating Record

The Kings established a franchise record when forward Chris Schmidt sat out Saturday’s game against Montreal because of a groin injury. With eight players already on the injured list, Schmidt gave the Kings 381 man games lost to injury this season, breaking the previous franchise mark of 380 set in 1995-96.

“We’ve set a couple of other records during the four years I’ve been here and I like those records better than [the injury mark],” Coach Andy Murray said following the Kings’ 2-1 victory over the Canadiens. “We’ve obviously tried to find reasons why this happened to us and we’re still not totally sure. They say that everything happens for a reason.... This must be to make us more resilient and stronger and to teach our young players what they have to go through to be successful at this level.”

The Kings claimed left winger Jon Sim off waivers from Nashville before Saturday’s game against Montreal. Sim, 25, played four games with the Predators after being acquired in a trade from Dallas on Feb. 17. Sim, who played in four games with the Stars, has spent most of the season playing for Utah of the American Hockey League and was selected the most valuable player of the AHL All-Star game last month.
