Skunk Train to Keep Rolling With Loans
The North Coast’s Skunk Train will be able to borrow the money it needs to stay open.
The 118-year-old tourist draw that trundles through redwoods between the coastal town of Fort Bragg and Willits 40 miles to the east was in danger of shutting down this week if it couldn’t pay its monthly insurance premium of $11,000. The train also needed about $250,000 to continue operations this year.
Fort Bragg Mayor Jere Melo said Tuesday that the train could borrow half the $250,000 from the city, and the Savings Bank of Mendocino County said it would lend the other half.
