Police Arrest Man Suspected in 2 Texas Slayings

Times Staff Writer

A would-be musician suspected of fatally bludgeoning and stabbing two people in a Texas farmhouse, and then leaving his driver’s license, his dog and promotional posters bearing his picture at the scene, was arrested Friday in Signal Hall, police said.

Two Signal Hill police officers approached Vincent J. Seard, 39, in an alley just south of 32nd Street near Orange Avenue, about 12:30 a.m. after getting a report of a suspicious person.

A computer check showed that a murder warrant had been issued for his arrest, police said. Seard fought as officers tried to arrest him, but was subdued as backup officers arrived, authorities said. Seard’s vehicle also was seized.

The bodies of Terry Ingram, 52, and Patricia Kutzer, 59, were found Monday by Ingram’s son on a ranch that overlooks Interstate 10 on the outskirts of Comfort, a town northwest of San Antonio.

Police said they don’t know why Seard was in Signal Hill.

Kerr County officials said Kutzer lived on the ranch with her husband, and Ingram rented a building on the property. He owned a body shop in Comfort and was a radio announcer for the high school football team.

The only thing missing from the ranch was Ingram’s credit card, police said.

Near the bodies and elsewhere on the property, investigators found posters with Seard’s picture and the name “Vincent,” according to the criminal complaint. Photos apparently of Kutzer’s family members also lay near the bodies, the affidavit said.

The posters appeared to be promotional material for a CD, authorities said.

The dog, a pit bull mix, was found in a fenced yard. Seard’s driver’s license was in a bedroom, along with photographs of Seard and the dog, according to the affidavit.

“Also found were several items of what appeared to be clothing ... and one suit appeared to be the same suit worn by Vincent J. Seard as reflected in some of the advertisement posters,” the affidavit read.

A black trench coat, apparently belonging to Seard, was found in Kutzer’s car, authorities said.

Authorities said they don’t know the motive for the killings.

Seard is being held at Los Angeles County Jail.

Texas investigators flew to Los Angeles on Friday to handle the investigation.
