From Times Wire Reports

An attempt to show that seals and humans could share a cove went awry when a seal attacked a group of swimmers, clawing a man who emerged from the water bleeding.

Members of the La Jolla Cove Swim Club went into the water Sunday to try to show that swimmers should be allowed to use an area known as the La Jolla Children’s Pool. A seal got in the middle of the swimmers and began to lunge at them and tried to bite them. One man was treated for claw marks and scratches, said lifeguard Sgt. John Everhart.
