A Santa Clara County woman who recently returned from Hong Kong is believed to have contracted severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS, a respiratory illness linked to Asia, health authorities said Monday.
She is the third suspected case in the county, and the 39th nationwide. The 37-year-old woman’s traveling companion, a 38-year-old man, was hospitalized last week as one of the first two cases of the disease in the county. Both remain in fair condition.
