University of Alabama officials are looking into whether football Coach Mike Price’s behavior in a golf tournament two weeks ago at Pensacola, Fla., was improper.

In a statement released Wednesday night, university President Robert Witt said he has been in discussions with Price and Athletic Director Mal Moore “concerning information we have received about Coach Price’s behavior in certain public settings and the appropriateness of that behavior.

“We are involved in a very deliberative process of gathering information, discerning what is factual and discussing these findings with Coach Price.”

Neither Witt nor Price would specify the nature of Price’s behavior.

Moore hired Price from Washington State last year after Dennis Franchione left for Texas A&M.;

Alabama is on probation for NCAA rules violations under former coach Mike DuBose, who was forced out during the 2000 season.

Witt said Tuesday there were no plans to take disciplinary action against Price.
