What: “Who’s Your Caddy?”

Author: Rick Reilly.

Publisher: Random House.

Price: $24.95.

If you go to www.randomhouse.com, you’ll find 58 books about golf. There are three about tennis, and three about football, supposedly America’s most popular sport. There are more golf books than golf jokes.

Do we need any more golf books? Do we need one about caddying?

If it’s written by Rick Reilly, the answer is, yes we do. Reilly could write about lawn bowling and make it funny, informative and entertaining. For this 261-page book, Reilly donned white caddie coveralls in order to get close to the 12 people he writes about. In most cases, he chose interesting people to profile -- John Daly, Donald Trump, Tom Lehman and David Duval. Yes, Reilly makes Duval interesting. Reilly also profiles renowned gambler Dewey Tomko, Jack Nicklaus, spiritual guru Deepak Chopra and Casey Martin. He follows his idol, Bob Newhart, around historic Bel-Air Country Club. There’s a chapter on an LPGA golfer, Jill McGill, and one on a blind golfer, Bob Andrews.

The first chapter is on Tommy Aaron. Why Aaron? Because he agreed to let Reilly carry his bag during a practice round at Augusta National. This chapter is titled “Get Your Mouth Off My Ball!” You might think Reilly used his mouth to clean Aaron’s ball. But Aaron admonished Reilly for telling a chip shot to “Get up!” He doesn’t want Reilly talking to his ball.

Maybe the best chapter is the one on Daly.

This guy has more demons than a golf ball has dimples, and Reilly reveals most of them.

In this highly entertaining book, you never know what the next page is going to bring.
