Man Pleads Not Guilty in Umpire Attack Case

A man who ran on the field at a Chicago White Sox game last month and was charged with attacking an umpire pleaded not guilty Wednesday at Chicago.

Eric Dybas, 24, of the Chicago suburb of Bolingbrook, is charged with one count of felony aggravated battery and one count of misdemeanor criminal trespass in the case.

Dybas is accused of hopping the fence at U.S. Cellular Field last month at a White Sox-Kansas City Royal game, running on the field and attacking umpire Laz Diaz.

Dybas has said he’d been drinking beer all day and that he didn’t mean to crash into the umpire.

If convicted, Dybas faces two to five years in prison. His next court appearance will be June 16.

The New York Mets put shortstop Rey Sanchez on the 15-day disabled list because of an injured left thumb. The move was made retroactive to May 10.

The Mets recalled Marco Scutaro from triple-A Norfolk.

Former Gold Glove second baseman Pokey Reese will be lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates until at least mid-July because of a torn ligament in his left thumb.

Reese was injured sliding Tuesday night against Houston.

He was put on the 60-day disabled list, but the Pirates did not immediately replace him on their 25-man roster.

Philadelphia Phillie infielder Tyler Houston was put on the 15-day disabled list because of a broken middle finger on his left hand.

Infielder Nick Punto was called up from triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre to replace Houston.

Right-hander Antonio Osuna was activated from the disabled list by the New York Yankees and left-hander Randy Choate was optioned to triple-A Columbus.
