An Oxnard police officer, responding to a report of a domestic dispute involving a gun, shot and injured a man Saturday after he reached for what turned out to be a tire iron, according to police.

Epigmenio Barragan, 32, of Oxnard was shot in the leg and treated at a local hospital for a minor wound, police said. Barragan was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a deadly weapon.

The incident occurred about 10:30 p.m. Saturday when officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute in the area of Palm Drive and A Street. Officers located the people involved in two vehicles, one of which drove off and was stopped by patrol officers, according to police.
