Pregnant Graf Is Out of the Mix

The highly anticipated on-court pairing of tennis greats Andre Agassi and his wife, Steffi Graf, at the French Open won’t be happening because of a family addition.

Graf, the winner of 22 Grand Slam singles titles, is pregnant with their second child and is expected to deliver in November. Agassi and Graf have a son, Jaden Gil, who was born in October 2001.

Agassi has been practicing in Paris to prepare for next week’s French Open and told the French sports daily L’Equipe that the mixed doubles adventure was off.

“When I said I might play mixed doubles with Steffi, I didn’t know the news,” Agassi told the newspaper Thursday. “It would not be wise for a pregnant woman to play.”

Graf never appeared to embrace the idea when Agassi revealed the bet he had made with his coach Darren Cahill during the Australian Open. Cahill said he would shave his head if Agassi won, which he did, and they thought of something for Graf to do too. Only she wasn’t in on it and seemed taken aback when Agassi went public with the news.
