A Cypress woman was killed Thursday when her car was broadsided by a sport-utility vehicle that police said had run a red light.

Joyce Marie Quintana, 56, was pronounced dead at Anaheim General Hospital shortly after the 3:50 p.m. accident, at Ball Road and Holder Street, said Sgt. Rich Ayres of the Cypress Police Department. The woman and 3-year-old child in the SUV were taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where they were being treated for serious injuries, he said. Both are expected to recover.

The accident happened, Ayres said, as Quintana, driving a compact car, was traveling west on Ball Road, and the Chevy Blazer, traveling south on Holder Street, ran a red light.

Both cars were overturned by the impact, Ayres said; witnesses turned Quintana’s right-side-up again.

No citations have been issued, he said, and the accident remains under investigation.
