Costumer’s art
As a budget-Bob-Mackie-costumer in the homestretch of constructing 750 costumes by myself, I really enjoyed Barbara Isenberg’s piece on William Ivey Long (“Tailor-Made for Broadway,” Oct. 26). It’s so nice to see that a gentleman in the industry of making people look good on stage has the same attention to detail as I do. .I enjoyed reading that he stands behind his costumes for a year of eight performances a week. I have had to construct mine with the expectation of doing 18 shows a week, six nights a week, and all the extra time-consuming steps it takes to make them “performance proof.” I hope you’ll do more pieces on those who exemplify the “art” of being a good costumer. Those of us who work through great adversity to achieve the same results with a far tighter budget would appreciate it.
