Democrats to Hold State Convention Jan. 16-18

California Democrats plan to hold their 2004 annual state party convention at San Jose’s McEnery Convention Center.
The January convention “will kick off the California presidential race to put a Democrat back in the White House to bring back a strong economy, led by the high-tech industry,” party Chairman Art Torres said Tuesday.
It is unlikely that any of the candidates will attend because the convention is scheduled for Jan. 16-18, just before the Iowa presidential caucuses.
The March 2 California presidential primary will be held six weeks after the convention.
Nine Democrats are seeking the party nomination to challenge President Bush next November.
