Fast and Furious Cat

Although he has a long way to go to match the accomplishments of Ten Most Wanted, Furious Cat is another talented 3-year-old in the barn of Wally Dollase.

A son of Tabasco Cat out of the Ogygian mare Haleys Fury, Furious Cat was fifth in his sprint debut on July 27, then was an easy winner when stretched out to a mile on Oct. 5 at Santa Anita.

Bet down to the 3-2 favorite in the field of eight, the dark bay made a bid while wide to take the lead on the backside, then kicked clear to win by 1 1/2 lengths.

Furious Cat’s effort was made to look even better when runner-up Mud Shark returned to win last week.

Owned by a partnership that includes Michael Jarvis and Horizon Stable, Furious Cat is the 8-5 morning-line favorite in today’s seventh at Santa Anita. The $44,000 optional claimer at 1 1/16 miles drew eight other entrants.

The only other entrant coming off a win is longshot Rock The Stone. A 4-year-old Prospect Bay colt, Rock The Stone lost his first 11 starts but has won two in a row for trainer Barry Abrams, including a 23-1 local upset on Oct. 15.

Race of the day: Zardoz will try for his fourth victory in five starts in today’s seventh at Golden Gate Fields. Russell Baze will ride the 6-year-old gelding for trainer Bill Morey in the $16,000 starter allowance at 1 1/16 miles on the turf.

One for the road: Stormin Greek has run well to be second in two sprints to begin his career and stretches out to a mile in today’s sixth at Aqueduct. The 2-year-old Stormin Fever gelding could be a single for a hot trainer (Peter Bazeos) in a pick six with a carry-over of more than $25,000. Raul Rojas will ride.

Exotically speaking: A pick four using Remembrances and Mary Swan in the fifth, Alabatros, Atticus Forever and Nates Colony in the sixth, Furious Cat in the seventh and Fireinthekitchen, Pirate’s Fleet and Really Suspect in the eighth.
