The union representing Kern County’s law enforcement officers have rejected a contract offer, union officials said.

More than 200 law officers said no to the county’s last and best offer Tuesday without a vote, union President Joe Pilkington said.

The association has about 475 members, including deputies and district attorney’s investigators. Pilkington said that about 250 members were at Tuesday night’s discussion.

The two sides can’t agree on when the members’ raise will be implemented. Also, the county wants to include a clause, opposed by the union, that the raise could be rescinded if the county loses more than $20 million in state budget cuts during the contract term.
