Truck Driver Dies in Freeway Crash
The driver of a truck was killed and a passenger seriously injured Tuesday evening after the driver lost control and hit a light pole on the southbound Corona del Mar Freeway near Bison Avenue in Newport Beach, authorities said.
Officials were unable to immediately determine whether the driver was a man or woman because of the impact of the 8 p.m. crash, said Officer Stacy Willits, a spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol.
“There were no witnesses, just people who stopped and called in after the fact,” Willits said. The cause of the accident remains under investigation, she said.
