Driver Arrested After Crash Kills Passenger
Santa Ana man who said he had been drinking was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter Thursday after the pickup he was driving slammed into a pole, killing a passenger, police said.
Hector Bravo Ortega, 36, and two passengers were northbound on Newhope Street about 3 a.m., said Garden Grove Police Sgt. Paul McInerny, when the pickup struck the pole.
Ortega and the one passenger who survived were taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange. At the hospital, Ortega and the passenger said they had been drinking, McInerny said.
