A man waiting for a pizza delivery in front of a friend’s home in Hawthorne died after being beaten with a baseball bat by a woman and then shot by a man, authorities said Saturday.

Carl Robles, 18, of Redondo Beach was standing on the porch with his friend in the 4700 block of West 118th Street about 7:40 p.m. Friday when a woman drove up in a yellow, late-model Ford Crown Victoria, said Lt. Al Grotenfend of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

“She started arguing with him for reasons we do not know yet,” said Grotenfend. “Then she reportedly took a baseball bat from her trunk and started assaulting the victim.”

As the assault moved to the street, a pedestrian arrived on the scene.

“The pedestrian knew the female suspect and he goes to her trunk, takes out an assault weapon and fires at the victim,” Grotenfend said.

Robles was hit once in the upper torso and ran a short distance before collapsing, Grotenfend said. The man and woman jumped in the car and headed westbound.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Anyone with information about the killing is asked to call sheriff’s detectives at (323) 890-5500.
