Hundreds of police officers, friends and family members gathered in northern San Diego on Monday to remember a California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer who was killed last week in a traffic accident.
Officer Dean Beattie died Thursday when his motorcycle ran into the back of a slow-moving recycling truck in the northbound lanes of California 163. The accident closed the highway for about five hours.
Officers from San Diego County law enforcement agencies formed a motorcade leading from Qualcomm Stadium to Rancho Bernardo. During the procession, a Chula Vista police officer suffered minor injuries when his motorcycle went down on Interstate 15.
The funeral for the 24-year veteran of the CHP was held in the 3,000-seat sanctuary of the Maranatha Chapel.
