Boston goalie Felix Potvin learned never to take anything for granted as the Bruins lost in overtime to the Blues, 4-3, Tuesday night at St. Louis in a meeting of first-place teams.

Doug Weight scored with 41 seconds left in overtime, giving St. Louis the victory after Keith Tkachuk had tied the game for the Blues with 29 seconds left in regulation.

“We had them where we wanted to have them, and they made a pretty good play at the end to tie it,” Potvin said.

Weight hit a shot from the faceoff circle, giving the Blues their fifth consecutive home victory. At the other end before Weight’s goal, St. Louis goalie Chris Osgood made a big save on a shot by Sergei Samsonov.

“It was a big win for our team,” Weight said. “With five minutes left being down, 3-2, it was pretty disheartening.”

Tkachuk was parked in front of the net when the rebound of a shot by Scott Mellanby came right to him. Tkachuk put the puck past Potvin for his 11th goal.

“We’re finding ways to win,” St. Louis Coach Joel Quenneville said. “You don’t expect to win like this very often.”

The Blues are 10-4-1 in one-goal games, first in the NHL.

Ottawa 6, Atlanta 3 -- Wade Redden scored two goals, and the Senators rallied from a three-goal deficit to win at Atlanta.

Radek Bonk and Peter Schaefer added goals as the Senators ended the Thrashers’ four-game winning streak.
