From Times Wire Reports

Sail Boston, a visit by tall ships that has drawn millions of spectators in the past, has been scuttled in 2004 so the city can focus on the Democratic National Convention.

Sail Boston’s board acceded to a request from Mayor Thomas M. Menino, who was concerned that the event, planned for July 10-15, would be a drain on city services so close to the convention, set for July 26-29. Sail Boston said it plans to hold the event in a subsequent year at “a more appropriate time.”
