The San Francisco coroner’s office expects results of an autopsy to help identify the cause of death for a man whose naked body was found inside a sea cave.

Results of the coroner’s exam performed Friday will be available in a few weeks, investigator Charles Cecil said. A fingerprint match is also being sought.

Park police reported that two hikers walking near Kelly’s Cove, below San Francisco’s historical Cliff House, discovered the body of the adult white male Wednesday afternoon.

The body was not badly decomposed and investigators believe it must have been in the water for a maximum of 18 hours, Cecil said.

The high tide, which carries water into the cave, probably deposited the body there as well, officials said.

The man was described as about 40 years old, 5 feet 11 and about 190 pounds.
