4 Houses Evacuated After Landslide
A sliding hillside slammed into a Hollywood Hills home Saturday, forcing the house from its foundation and prompting the evacuation of four homes, authorities said.
Fire officials received a call at 1:04 p.m. from a man in the 1500 block of Marlay Drive, reporting a loud sound.
“Suddenly, his home was thrown three to 12 inches off its footing,” Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said. The man escaped injury.
The slide started in a rear yard of a home in the 1600 block of Woods Drive, above the Marlay Drive residence, Humphrey said.
About 3,000 cubic feet of soil was found at the base of the hill.
The 800-square-foot Marlay Drive home sustained severe damage and was cordoned off by authorities, who also roped off three homes across the street. The cause of the slide was unknown Saturday.
