From Staff and Wire Reports

The city’s decision to end free Sunday parking at metered downtown spaces has led to hundreds of citations, officials said Monday.

Although it may not be popular with tourists, the meters are expected to boost city coffers by $60,000 annually.

The city issued hundreds of warnings Sept. 7, before enforcing its new meter rule. The grace period ended Sept. 14.

The city wrote 287 citations on the first Sunday, said Matt Farrell, city parking manager.

The next Sunday, the city wrote 262 citations, an 8% drop. But last Sunday, the number crept up to 317. A ticket carries an $18 fine.
