Jacksonville quarterback Mark Brunell expects to be ready to play against San Diego on Sunday. Whether he plays is another question -- and whether his coach agrees with his prognosis is yet another sticking point.

Brunell was cleared to practice Wednesday, but he also was listed as questionable on the injury report because of a scraped elbow, a gash that required five stitches Sept. 22.

“That will be real difficult -- feeling physically ready to roll and not being able to,” Brunell said. “That would be a hard one, particularly since we need a win so bad.”

The Jaguars are 0-4.

Rookie Byron Leftwich said he took the majority of snaps with the first team in practice.

Coach Jack Del Rio didn’t offer any hints as to what he’ll do, and wouldn’t say whether Brunell would start if healthy.

Minnesota quarterback Daunte Culpepper didn’t practice and probably will sit out another game to give his back more time to heal.

Culpepper broke three small bones -- another was partially fractured -- in his lower back Sept. 21 against Detroit.

Receiver Curtis Conway was the New York Jets’ biggest free-agent signing in the off-season. He now has a seat on the bench.

Coach Herman Edwards said Santana Moss would start at receiver when the Jets (0-4) play host to Buffalo on Oct. 12.

Moss, a former first-round pick, leads the team with 236 yards receiving.

Conway, an 11-year veteran, has 14 receptions for 203 yards with no touchdowns. He had three drops in the Jets’ 23-16 loss to New England two weeks ago, including one in the end zone.

Atlanta Coach Dan Reeves suspended starting cornerback Tyrone Williams for one game for “conduct detrimental to the team.” The action followed an apparent blowup between Williams and assistant coaches.

Tennessee tight end Frank Wycheck practiced for the first time in a month but isn’t ready to say when he’ll return to the lineup.

He suffered the second concussion of his career in the Titans’ season-opening victory over Oakland. Wycheck was listed as questionable for Sunday’s game with New England.

“I’m not totally cleared up to the point where I could go out and risk getting another hit,” Wycheck said.

A federal judge has overturned a ruling that canceled the Washington Redskins’ trademark, finding there was insufficient evidence to conclude the name is disparaging to American Indians.

The case pits the Redskins against seven American Indian activists who claim the team’s name and mascot disparage Indian heritage and tradition.

Team officials say the name is meant to honor American Indians.
