Woman Charged With Murder in Son’s Death
A 19-year-old Canoga Park woman who allegedly beat her 2-year-old son over a week and failed to call for help despite his critical injuries was charged with murder Thursday.
Claudia Merlos appeared briefly in San Fernando Superior Court, where her arraignment was postponed until Oct. 21. She also was charged with child abuse causing death and torture.
Her son, Ivan, was rushed to West Hills Medical Center and then transferred to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles on Tuesday night after her roommate called 911 because the boy had stopped breathing. He died late Wednesday.
