Galaxy Loses Another One on the Road, 2-0

DaMarcus Beasley and Jesse Marsch scored six minutes apart as the Chicago Fire defeated the Galaxy, 2-0, Saturday night in front of 11,874 at Cardinal Stadium in Naperville, Ill.

Beasley beat defenseman Hong Myung-Bo to a loose ball in the 60th minute. The midfielder lifted a shot over goalie Kevin Hartman for his sixth goal.

Marsch scored in the 66th minute, beating Hartman from 15 yards after a cross pass from Beasley.

Zach Thornton stopped three shots for his seventh shutout of the season.

Chicago, which leads the Eastern Conference, improved to 13-6-8. The Galaxy dropped to 8-11-8, but is assured of a playoff spot with three regular season games left.

The Galaxy also remained winless on the road at 0-8-5.

After a 20-month stay in suburban Naperville, the Fire will return to a renovated Soldier Field for its final two home games of the season.

Kansas City 4, Colorado 2 -- The Wizards won their second straight and improved to 9-10-8, pulling to within four points of the Rapids for second place in the Western Conference. The Rapids dropped to 11-10-6.

In front of 13,069 at Kansas City, Chris Klein had two goals to lead the Wizards. Midfielder Preki had three assists for the Wizards.

D.C. United 1, Columbus 1 -- Marco Etcheverry converted a penalty kick in the 59th minute to give D.C. United the tie in front of 17,995 at Columbus, Ohio.

Etcheverry was fouled in the box by defender Frankie Hejduk and put the penalty kick into the left side netting as Jon Busch dived right.

Hejduk stole a ball outside the penalty box to start the play that led to Ross Paule’s goal in the 19th minute.

Columbus (8-11-8), which trails New England by four points for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot, is 0-3-8 in overtime games. D.C. United (10-9-8) has eight ties this season, a club record.

New England 4, Dallas 1 -- Taylor Twellman scored twice and Jose Cancela had two assists as the Revolution (9-9-9) dominated the second half to beat the Burn (5-18-4) in front of 8,917 at Southlake, Texas.

Twellman’s first goal came in the 44th minute. His left-footed shot on an assist from Brian Kamler tied the score at 1-1. His second goal came on a right-foot shot in the 70th minute.
