Smuggler Pleads Guilty in 3 Immigrants’ Deaths

The driver of a truck carrying illegal immigrants, who was trying to evade the U.S. Border Patrol in January when he crashed, pleaded guilty Monday to three counts of second-degree murder.
The crash occurred Jan. 9 on Interstate 8. The truck’s 17 occupants were ejected and three killed when it hit spike strips.
Carlos Sanchez Moreno, 20, is expected to be sent to prison for 15 years to life when he is sentenced Nov. 12.
