Environmental Attorney Appointed as Judge
Charles Stevens Crandall was appointed to the San Luis Obispo County Superior Court on Wednesday by Gov. Gray Davis. He replaces Judge Donald G. Umhofer.
Crandall, 51, has specialized in state and federal environmental civil suits. In private practice in San Luis Obispo, he most recently won a multimillion-dollar case against natural gas and oil producer Unocal for contaminating soil in San Luis Obispo.
He has also served as an assistant U.S. attorney in New Jersey and San Diego. Since 1999, Crandall has taught at the University of San Diego Law School.
