Miami Dolphin linebacker Junior Seau ran and went through a light practice Thursday, but he remains questionable for Sunday’s game at Jacksonville after straining a hamstring last week. He will try to go through a full practice today.

“The trainers and I are doing everything possible,” he said. “To go out there and play is something that we are planning on doing, but we are not going to have a definitive answer today, or probably even tomorrow.”

If Seau can’t play, the Dolphins would use Tommy Hendricks, along with Zach Thomas and Morlon Greenwood.

Also, center Tim Ruddy went through a full practice and will start. He sat out Sunday’s game against the New York Giants after undergoing knee surgery.

It will be at least another week before free safety Jason Sehorn makes his debut with the St. Louis Rams. He was ruled out of Monday night’s game against Atlanta by Coach Mike Martz because of soreness in the left foot he broke in late July.

Martz is hopeful Sehorn, who has been sidelined 10 weeks, can play next week.

The NFL has reacted to the LaVar Arrington-Warren Sapp spat with a stern warning: If Sapp runs through the Washington Redskins’ jumping jacks, he’s going to get flagged.

The league told the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Redskins that no pregame hostilities will be tolerated when the teams meet Sunday.

Specifically, the NFL reminded them that it is not permissible to run through opponents’ formations during pregame stretching. Sapp has been known for doing that, including some fancy stepping through Colts’ players before Monday night’s game against Indianapolis.

“It will result in a 15-yard penalty,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said.

The penalty would be assessed on the opening kickoff. If a fight breaks out before the game, the participants will be subject to ejection.

The warning comes a day after Arrington called Sapp’s pregame actions disrespectful and threatened to retaliate if Sapp did the same against the Redskins.

Quarterback Chad Pennington of the New York Jets threw during seven-on-seven drills at practice. Pennington, who throws right-handed, dislocated and broke his left wrist during the exhibition season and is not expected back for several weeks.

This was the first time he threw during practice since the injury, throwing 12 passes and completing eight. Coach Herman Edwards said Pennington might start practicing during team drills next week.

Jacksonville punter Chris Hanson required surgery to close a gash on his right, non-kicking, leg after he miscalculated while using an ax to hack at a massive tree stump that Coach Jack Del Rio put in the Jaguar locker room a few weeks ago.

Del Rio used the stump as a symbol for the mantra he has adopted for the Jaguars (1-4) this season: “Keep chopping wood.”

Hanson took the message literally and wound up being rushed to the hospital, where he received several stitches, team spokesman Dan Edwards said. Hanson’s leg will be in a boot for four to six weeks.
