Nebraska cornerback Kellen Huston, who was caught on videotape knocking a Missouri fan to the turf after the Cornhuskers’ 41-24 loss to the Tigers on Saturday at Columbia, Mo., was suspended for one game on Tuesday by Coach Frank Solich.

Hundreds of fans stormed the field after Missouri ended a 24-game losing streak to Nebraska.

University of Missouri Police Chief Jack Watring told Associated Press that the fan was Matthew Scott, 21, of Lee’s Summit, Mo.

Watring said the case is being handled as a misdemeanor assault and that it would be forwarded to the city attorney for prosecution.

Watring said Scott, who is not a student at the school, “has two black eyes and a very swollen nose.”

A tape broadcast by KMTV of Omaha shows Huston hitting the fan in the face with a clenched fist soon after the fan ran at Huston while pointing a finger at him.

“After viewing the film and speaking to people who were at the scene, I truly believe that Kellen did not instigate the situation and that he was simply reacting to what he saw as a dangerous situation coming right at him,” Solich said.
