Former Teacher Guilty of Killing Girlfriend

A former high school Spanish teacher was convicted of first-degree murder Thursday in the stabbing death of his girlfriend last October.

A Los Angeles jury deliberated less than an hour before finding Pedro Tepoz Leon, 35, guilty of killing 19-year-old Mayra Mora-Lopez. The recent Woodrow Wilson High School graduate was fatally stabbed at the couple’s Long Beach apartment Oct. 24, 2002. Leon is expected to receive a state prison term of 26 years to life when he is sentenced Nov. 19.
