Azeri, coming through with her second solid workout since an illness after her defeat at Santa Anita on Sept. 28, was clocked in 1:10 1/5 for six furlongs Friday at the San Luis Rey Downs training center.

Trainer Laura de Seroux, while concerned that the time might have been too fast, hoped the workout would sharpen Azeri for next Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Distaff, the race she won last year at Arlington Park.

“She’ll need to be on her game,” De Seroux said. “Because the race has drawn a super group.”

The $2-million Distaff drew eight horses -- it will have the smallest field on the eight-race Breeders’ Cup card at Santa Anita -- but included in the field are Sightseek, Take Charge Lady and Got Koko, who ended Azeri’s winning streak at 11 in the Lady’s Secret Handicap last month.

De Seroux and trainer Aidan O’Brien, who leads the European invasion of the Breeders’ Cup with seven horses, are running the two favorites Sunday in the $1.5-million Pattison Canadian International at Woodbine. O’Brien has sent Brian Boru, the 2-1 morning-line favorite, and De Seroux will saddle Ballingarry, who is 4-1. Ballingarry won the race last year for O’Brien, and afterward the colt was sold and De Seroux took over as trainer. *

Outstandingly, who won the first running of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies after the 74-1 shot Fran’s Valentine was disqualified at Hollywood Park in 1984, has been euthanized after suffering from a hoof disease. Outstandingly, 21, won 10 of 28 starts, earning $1.4 million.... Jockey Iggy Puglisi’s agent, Richie Silverstein, said that the rider was hospitalized for X-rays after a spill Friday at Santa Anita. Montanasadixichick, a 3-year-old filly making her second start, broke down near the far turn and was euthanized.
