Voting by Mail

Share

Paul Gronke makes several worthwhile points in his Oct. 16 commentary on the trend toward mail-in voting (“Electing to Change How We Vote”), but he downplays the most important aspect of the practice: accuracy. Given the growing encroachment of electronic touch-screen voting -- with its many documented security flaws -- and the continuing fallout from not only the 2000 election but several 2002 races as well, the accuracy of vote-counting must be held as the fundamental criterion in weighing competing voting systems. I’ve never voted by mail in my life, but the option is looking pretty good right now.
